Subject: Urgent Appeal for Anti-Tetanus Serum (ATS) and Wheelchairs

Dear Donors and Supporters:

Anti-Tetanus Serum (ATS)

The second wave of death has started in the earthquake (EQ) zone. This time the killer infection from wounds suffered during the earlier EQ. Once the tetanus incubates it is too late to save lives, no vaccine in the world works. Pakistan has made an urgent appeal for vaccines, but ATS vaccines are in very short supply - Globally. Only a handful of pharmaceuticals in the world produce it and the richer countries stockpile some of it for their own citizens – for Katrina’s and Wilma’s.

SARID, after a global search, has identified a source which will offer 5,000 vials or 50,000 doses. They have it on hold for another day or two. If we let the opportunity slip – we are counting days, there are other countries waiting to buy it. Pakistan, as per Musharraf’ s speech and Kofi Annan’s, has received less then 20% of the aid it needs. Pakistan is buying food, tents, shelter, relocating and has to stockpile for winter months. Hence given the competing priorities the nation is truly grateful for the help Pakistanis are giving to the motherland.

SARID has spoken to Abdul Kadir, who heads the Governments for acquiring medical aid for Pakistan, and he has requested that the vaccines be sent immediately Pakistan needs this vaccine as the next batch of serum, as per one supplier, will not happen till March 2006. By that time most of the infected will be dead. A $100 donation from 100 families will obtain 50,000 doses of ATS. Each $100 donation will save 50 lives.

Wheelchairs and Crutches:
The EQ zone desperately needs wheelchairs, there are no wheelchairs available. It is estimated that thousands of wheelchairs are required. We need to raise another $50,000 for wheelchairs, crutches etc. We have negotiated with a factory to take over their entire production. Cost of one wheel chair delivered is $100, and one crutch is $15. We need to place the order in a week so we can get all the supplies within the next 2-3 weeks. We will personally deliver these or through a reliable organization such as EDHI. We have ordered 100 wheelchairs from our donations, as well as other ambulatory items. We have expended almost all of our relief funds.

100% of your donation will be given to the relief effort. SARID is bearing all overheads.
