SARID
STARTS SENDING WHEELCHAIRS AND CRUTCHES TO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
November 11, 2005
SARID
has started sending wheelchairs and crutches to earthquake
victims.
Recently, we have commissioned a factory in Pakistan to build
all the wheelchairs for the earthquake relief effort. In order
to build them to SARID’s specification, the factory
has installed new machinery and equipment. These wheelchairs,
which are much sturdier than those available in the country,
would cost three to four times more if imported from overseas.
The wheelchairs are well made (see the picture below). The
metal used is chrome-plated steel. The wheels on both the
front and rear wheel have ball bearings and the front wheel
swivels with ease. The back and seat are made of strong and
durable artificial leather. The fittings used are good, as
strong and lasting fasteners have been used. Overall, it is
an excellent product.
The production of wheelchairs also offers valuable local
employment. Sarid is planning to set up a factory in the earthquake
zone as a cooperative, offering jobs to a number of victims.
Hopefully, with your support, this will come to fruition.
Please support our effort by going to our support
page and donating online. One hundred dollars (US) will
buy one chair and two crutches. Sarid appreciates your support.
Close to 30,000 people need some ambulatory equipment to conduct
basic chores of life that we take for granted.
